The Next Big Thing with Rebecca Hamilton

The amazing A.D. Trosper invited me to this interview tag-a-than. I don’t usually do these things, but Trosper is too awesome not to get involved. So, let’s get straight to it!

1. What is the working title of your book?

Right now I’m working on Come, the Dark.

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

While I was writing The Forever Girl, I had some ideas that related to the same world. I wanted to write more about the Salem witch trials. I decided I would write another series, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized these characters were all part of the same story. And so, The Forever Girl trilogy became somewhat of an unusually formatted series.

3. What genre does your book fall under?

Paranormal Fantasy

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

My readers play this game called elimination casting on facebook, and so far they have cast Jensen Ackles as Charles(I would have picked that too!), Teresa Palmer as Sophia (she was my second choice. I liked Elisabeth Harnois for the role). Currently they are in a voting war over Ksenia Solo or Mylene Jampanoi for Ivory (I would have picked Megan Fox, who was voted off pretty early on actually).

You’re Welcome.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Rose was just a teenage girl carrying her father’s baby–a teenage girl who desperately wanted to escape. Womanhood in Salem, Massachusetts 1692 wasn’t what she had in mind.

That’s two sentences, and I could have made it work with a semi-colon, but that would have been contrived 😉

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Self-published, with something in Europe  being finalized now. I have an agent and he is AMAZING.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

My current MS? Ugh. Like a year so far? I’ve been extra slow on this one…

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I guess it’s sort of like Twilight, True Blood, and the Fever Series (from what other people say). At the same time, it’s like none of those.

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?

A friend of mine encouraged me to write the book, but my children (especially my oldest) and my life experiences have inspired what kind of character I write.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

The book I’m working on now has me really excited to explore some more horror and spook elements. There’s a little bit of a tip of the hat to zombies in the story (though no actual zombies) and a lot going on with witches, ghosts, and possessions.
